ABOUT PARENTING MOVES

My name is Elyse Goldstein, founder of Parenting Moves. I’ve worked as an educator for almost 20 years, and has been credited with creating numerous innovative and interactive programs and workshops for parents, children and grandparents. About 5 years into my career, while teaching in the classroom, I always found myself hearing the same questions from parents addressing the same problems regarding their children:

“Why can my child follow a routine in the classroom, and at home they are totally unresponsive?”

“How can I develop organizational skills, self confidence, communication skills, and tolerance with my children?”

“How can we develop our children’s independence and focus while still maintaining a level of control?”

“How can my child achieve better academic success, and how can I get my children to enjoy reading and understand its importance and spend less time on the tv/nintendo?”

“Will I ever have a peaceful dinner table, and will I ever be able to take my kids out to dinner without aggravation?”

I thought about all of those questions and concerns, and many others that arose at parent teacher conferences and in my private practice, programs and workshops. As a communications specialist I decided to put together a quick survey to really understand if parents outside my classes felt the same way – sure enough, they were. Thus Parenting Moves was born.

I hold a B.A. in Speech Communications from the University of Maryland, and an M.S. in Education with a specialization in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Adelphi University. I’m married and am the mother of four children ranging in age from 4 to 13. I understand, first-hand the feeling of the complex and often overwhelming routines that can take place in the day to day operations of your home. I believe in finding outcomes over obstacles, and acknowledges that life is like a classroom; there is always more to learn!
