What’s in?
Is NOT CARING ABOUT what is in and what is out.
Have you ever heard this?:
Child: “Why can’t I have a _____________?”
Parent: “Why do you want _______________?”
Child: “Because I really want it! Everyone has ___________ I want it, please…………”
Parent: “No, I am not going to get it (with a smile). We don’t think it is necessary now.”
Child: “UGH, YOU ARE SO MEAN!”
How do we raise children to be independent thinkers?
Every generation is presented with challenges that make raising children a little more difficult:
The 1950’s.
During this time period children were begging and pleading their parents to buy the newest and greatest must have item…the television. Previously, families gathered around the radio and could only listen to shows. Prior to the television, one had to use their imagination to interpret what they were listening to. With the invention of television, now one could sit back and watch.
The 1960’s
During this time period, a generation saw themselves unrestricted. It was an era of war, and a time when lines were blurred. Many parents could not make sense of their children’s actions, and children felt behooved to rebel against their parents and society. Of course, music, specifically the Beatles, had a strong impact as well. Many social changes that took place in the 1960’s have a direct impact on our lives today.
The 1970’s
During this time we saw new technology, new music, and new content for television shows. The Environmental Protection Agency was formed and the first mass demonstration against pollution of the earth was planned, and the Concorde was invented.
Each era has its positive and negative impact on society. It is how we as parents manage the information that we are faced with, that will ultimately have a POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE impact on our own families.
Now, let’s fast forward to 2010:
Learn how we can manage the era we are living in. Discover how many incredible new strategies we can implement in our homes to promote responsible, independent, organized and communicative children.
